On BA there used to be a build drone VM setup to build it, dunno if it's still linked there since the source code purge though, but it would build fine with that

IIRC it used razzle just like this wxp code, so maybe it can be setup similarly

From what I can see it's a dead end trying to look on beta archive, there's a thread with links, but the Mega link been taken down and the win 2k based drone build vmdk is dead (tried on archive.org, it's been captured but it doesn't load the file for me) it's a shame really I am also interested in finding this build vm

That's true, I did start a build of NT 4 and the WRK with NTOSBE (sizzle), WRK built no issues, but NT 4 threw issues with 16 bit on x86 W10.. so I think to build NY4 we ideally need 2K era OS or heavy patching like we are with NT 5

That never really made sense to me since AFAIK the difficulty with Xbox is in the custom hardware it used, running Xbox kernel on your PC isn't gonna turn your GPU into the NV2X that all the games require.

Pretty sure emudevs had access to this source for years too (iirc barnabus release actually came from one of them), but xbox emu is still a mess.

Maybe if it was a hardware source leak with vdl/hdl/whatever it would have helped, too bad whoever leaked this from MS was an idiot, dunno why you'd risk your livelihood over leaking some useless NT-like kernel without anything that actually made the xbox special, hope the modchip mfgs paid them well at least...

The Codename Fusion project didn't work. the only thing they actually implemented was a dummy loader for xbe files - it would open the xbe as a regular exe file, and went no further than that. They only had the WRK and impartial xbox sources (the barnabas 4400 leak), so they weren't able to implement much at all anyways.

XQEMU is a project that implements full emulation of the Xbox hardware in a QEMU-based virtualization container. Sound is still a work in progress, but it runs stuff.

CxBx-Reloaded tries to do patching of the binary in memory and then a bunch of conditional compatibility profiles to handle things in software. Works really well since ~2 months ago.

This is why any normal OS in the Xbox is sh*t. Undepowered CPU, insufficient RAM and a Geforce2 MX like GPU. Only baremetal games would run in such crapped architecture, but is totally insufficient for a full-fledged OS.

If it doesn't we could maybe try extracting systime.obj from WRK's amd64 ntoswrk.lib, probably not an exact match but might work better.

At the least maybe that amd64 systime.obj could let us compare with .obj from building our systime.c, and see if there's anything missing

Did anyone actually manage to make a WinPE image from this src yet?

Maybe it could be edited to build a winpe x64 image, I'd guess booting winpe directly would probably be a lot easier than needing to fix all the setup/driver shit...

IIRC buildwinpeimage.cmd or something like that gets ran as one of the last postbuild things, not sure where result of that gets placed though

man, it's getting hard finding time to do this.
anyways...
i been able to compile w2k's pro sku but i fell on some build errors.
my build errors say
> filechk.pl: shell32.dll missing
> filechk.pl: ntdos412.sys missing
> filechk.pl: appwiz.cpl missing
> filechk.pl: logonui.exe missing
i couldn't find these files in the 2k3-missing-x86fre.7z in the build doc, so i copied it from the en_winxp_pro_x86_build2600_iso.img with matching hash.
well, that works, but now i'm getting bad image checksum (pic rel) on shell32.dll.
i'm going to assume i'll have errors for other 3 transplated files, so has anyone got over this hurdle?
i'm guessing the transplanted files are compressed or something as they came out the ISO as 'shell32.dl_' or 'appwiz.cp_'.
anyone got a clue? or is this still unfigured?
was able to install correctly. pic rel is from first boot after install.

logonui.exe should have been compiled from src, probably the others too, check your build.log file
I know logonui uses directui stuff so make sure your path is at D:\srv03rtm too

With systime.c/exinit.c I found that calling an extern function allows the function to be ordered properly, seems if the function doesn't call externs the compiler just randomly puts it near the start of the .obj for some reason?

Just calling an extern and disregarding the value is enough, compiler is smart enough to remove the call but will leave the function where you wanted.

Here's exinit.c with function order pretty much exactly matching exinit.obj, there's a few code differences though and some missing functions like ExpWatchLicenseInfoWork, I'll look into all that later.

(I'm guessing MS themselves didn't use this 'hack' to order their exinit.obj though, tried a bunch of things but doing this was the only way that worked, maybe there's a pragma or something I didn't know about tho)

The duiparser/parse.obj errors are caused by directui/duser, edit windows\advcore\dirs file and remove duser from it (it wasn't there originally, prepatched pack added it)

The rest of the errors are missing .lib files, you should be able to find amd64 versions of those in the XPSP1 tree I think

maybe that's the stuff from base\ntsetup\opktools, afaik ntsetup dirs file doesn't include opktools so you have to cd to that dir and bcz manually, no idea if that stuff can actually build or not though

Looking into the WinPE, there are various OEM Installation Kits on archive.org for XP and 2k3 (containing similar oscdimg and a few others) so I am also looking to see what goodies there are (noticed a repo.cab on a few discs)

Yeah Server 2003 SP1 is all I could find for standard server, but there is SBS 2k3 and .NET OPKs aswell (I think they are older than SP1 OPK either way..)

Also the OPK disks seems different in terms not much source from what I can tell, gunna boot up my older nt building VM and install it properly (it's sadly not the Build Drone VM)

They had planned versions of the WRK for future Windows versions. Unfortunately, someone from the Investors group wasn't happy with this, and the whole thing got discarded after WRK v1.2 (2k3 SP1, apparently there was an older "beta" version, but it never got outside MS labs apparently)

Fixed lots of missing files from 2 server 2003 64 bit iso's but now I have the situation where I edited layout.inf. dosnet.inf and txtsetup.sif to delete things that we do not have files for and i make it up through text mode setup to the point where things restart, the built 64 bit kernel boots fine and gui setup tries to begin but before that can happen i get hit with a BSOD for winlogon. (I have tested the following winlogon.exe versions - same BSOD)

5.2.3790.1069 (64 bit) (from ab1pxfre_en ISO)
5.2.3790.1830 (64 bit) (from ax2pxvol_en ISO)
6.0.4005.0 (32 bit) (from longhorn 4005) (works on our 32 bit x86 build)

This repo https://github.com/smartmaster/wrk-msvc
has a copy of a 73.5 MB WRK ISO (and another one, CRK, which is 66 MB)
and the files inside the ISO seem to be properly dated from 2006 (pic related) in https://github.com/smartmaster/wrk-msvc/tree/master/iso
It even has a copy of Virtual PC 2004 SP1.
It seems complete and legit, although I don't think it has the VM image, unfortunately.

Also, I have no idea why you guys are looking for this, I'm just passing by and thought I'd help how I could, because I hope something good comes out of this whole thing in the end.

Building/deploying a WRK kernel for x86 [or amd64]

 0. Copy the WRK into a directory, say %wrk%.

the typecast errors are actually just warnings, if you add

I was able to get past that by making sure the stuff in the public directory was extracted! Still have the type cast errors though - I am pretty sure this is because the problematic code was not written for 64 bit.

did you try BUILD_ALLOW_ALL_WARNINGS?
the code that errors only seems to be doing some minor things like casting a 32-bit number into a 64-bit pointer, for it to get passed along to a function properly (in x86 it'd be 32-bit number to 32-bit pointer, so no error)

if you edit the lines in question to have (SIZE_T) in between the cast that might get rid of the warning though

eg
>Reader->pvUserData = (PVOID) (++EventCount);
becomes
>Reader->pvUserData = (PVOID) (SIZE_T) (++EventCount);

or you might need to use UINT_PTR instead of SIZE_T

So seems the .bats are definitely from a different version, and not just some things that were missing/removed

That's the most complete copy I can find of the .bat/.sln version, other copies of it I found were missing stuff like base\ntos\rtl\BUILD folder so building would fail on those, but this copy seems to build under VS2019 fine.

Also the uploader licensed it under MIT too, pretty heckin based

For me the WindowsResearchKernel-WRK folder inside "Windows Kernel Source Code like.7z" was the only one that's worked without needing to change anything
(name of that folder makes me think repackfag probably got this from the original WindowsResearchKernel-WRK.zip... why the fuck couldn't he include that so we could easily just check the hash etc? repacking shit to save 4% of disk space is so fucking retarded)

Doesn't seem like it'd be that easy to get win2003 stuff loaded into VS tho sadly, too bad there's no converter for the sources files or anything like that...

WRK is included in the archive torrent, as is the full source to OpenNT. There's stuff in there that might prove valuable to this project, so that's why it's harmful to spread lies about the authenticity of the files. The authenticity of the files can easily be verified with the 'compare_dirs.sh' script that's bundled with the torrent.

shutinit_s.c is a MIDL interface client c-code file, there is a shutinit_c.c client file as well, as the MIDL tool generates these

I found when remove _c.c & _s.c I found that they are being regenerated by the build process.

Their should be a shutinit.idl file

When you search for InitShutdown you should find the implementation as well as the stub-functions needed for MIDL.

shutimp.h says

So, Where I am stuck at:
I was able to build the amd64 tree and work around some postbuild errors by adding some missing amd64 only files that we didn't have to the binaries.amd64fre directory and by editing layout.inf, dosnet.inf, txtsetup.sif to remove files that we did not have, I make it through text mode setup and the built amd64 kernel boots fine but when gui mode setup tries to begin, before it can winlogon closes and smss bluescreens the OS. This is because we don't have a version of winlogon.exe that will work correctly on amd64 - even the two server 2003 x64 retail builds i was able to find will not work here. On trying the suggestion to build from the source that some anon's made, the build of winlogon is currently failing with this error (relating to InitShutdown_ServerIfHandle being an unresolved external symbol).

Probably need some more help here.

I have done that - I actually have a copy of the entire tree setup in a different directory structure and can swap between x86 and amd64 - When building for i386 the exe is built but the built exe even bluescreens the x86/i386 VM I have running off a built srv03rtm pro sku iso. - though it does build successfully. (when I say bluescreens I mean I get all the way up to the build number appearing in the bottom right and the mouse pointer rendering then before logonui loads the bluescreen happens on the x86/i386 vm)

Nah, I have not touched the code aside from adding (SIZE_T) to around lines 290 and 303 of ds\security\gina\winlogon\sc.c and
line 339 of ds\security\gina\winlogon\usrpro.c

This was a suggested fix from a nice anon to fix a casting problem for building the amd64 version of this.

Here is a comparison of my build windows i386/x86 vs amd64.

Aight think I figured how to fix that, building the idl file under amd64 seems to build win32+win64 c files
(note for anyone that wants to build idl in future, you'll need IDL_TYPE=RPC in the sources file for _c/_s files to be made)

Winlogon now gets me to a win2000 style logon prompt on the i386 build / VM.

I have also tested this working built x86/i386 winlogon exe on the amd64 VM and get the bluescreen at the bottom of the image when trying to load gui setup so we are going to have to build for amd64 for sure - not going to get away with dropping in an x86 built exe on amd64 builds unfortunately..

I am able to get past the account restriction message by editing some security / logon policy settings in gpedit.msc - once the login tries to happen I bluescreen with this bsod.

You could try editing sysinit.c and change InitShutdown_ServerIfHandle to InitShutdown_v1_0_s_ifspec instead, think that might let it build with the last pack I posted

Since the win2003 login screen is pretty much the same screen as >>78493276, but logs in fine without needing GP edits, I guess the problem must be that win2000 winlogon doesn't register it as a console logon?

Console-logon seems to mean local login, at least it sounds that way based on

The change to line 782 of ds\security\gina\winlogon\sysinit.c
( InitShutdown_v1_0_s_ifspec ) allowed it to successfully build an amd64 iteration.

When I tried it though on the amd64 build vm I am testing on I still bluescreened after the kernel boots and before gui mode setup can launch. (the 0x00000080) same fault code like above that other winlogons have gave me on this amd64 vm.

Built on x86/i386 like that too.
So on a fully installed from built iso x86/i386 system we get as far as logging in and having the logon dialog disappear and the mouse pointer update with an hourglass after a couple of seconds and it teases you thinking the desktop is about to appear and then you bluescreen with the c000021a / 0xc0000354 bugcodes.

On amd64 before you hit guisetup you bluescreen with c000021a / 0x00000080 bugcodes.

So it's faulting at the same address??
This same bluescreen (c000021a / 0x00000080) also happens with the other two winlogons we have for amd64 from retail builds: 3790.1069 and 3790.1830 on the quarter-way installed amd64 guisetup vm. - not sure if this is a hint of something.

without the PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE=x86 hack it uses busted tools from srv03rtm\tools\win64\x86\amd64 that require pre-release amd64 msvcrt.dll with different exports

Look at the .cmd files that come bundled with the CABs. Do they look original? There's errors in them and you have to change them to output to the right drive before they work. The original leaks for 2000 and NT 4 were repacks. Two or three or four different release groups had packed the 2000 archive recursively, each adding their own NFO file.

You want to keep that shit? What makes you feel it's more original? Better to just have a simple 7zip archive for each leak / release.

These weren't GSP packs made by MS themselves, as with NT3.5 and the XP/2k3 leaks, but handmade tree snapshots leaked from Bristol. You can't compare these to this.

Yes. MS dogfeeding their own compression tools to make the pack is a good proof. In the docs you can see MS distributed the OpenGL, IFS, HAL and Processor kits the same way.

Never has been strange for MS to put their build drives in higher driveletters. I've seen D, G, H or the common one X. They also instruct their partners to use separated disks or logical units to build their kits (and use very short paths to store the source).

That only does for each file authenticity, not for the pack released as a whole (The GSP "srckit" as it is)
Also, when you refer to public and/or leaked docs, the thing will appear on it is the MS authentic GSP pack as it was leaked, not the 7zip archive made by a 3rd party mirror-er.

I'm talking about the WindowsResearchKernel-WRK.zip file MS themselves published with hashes on the MSDN site, that's as original as it gets.

I don't know why you'd bother repacking that, I'm hoping you still have the original so I can compare with the MSDN hashes seeing as your 7z seems to have the right contents of it, but from your attitude toward keeping original things I'm guessing you probably nuked that as soon as your repack scripts finished

Now the only option to check if it's valid is to download the original and use your script with it, but once I've completed downloading the original why would I even bother with your repack and executing any code that you've wrote on my machine? I have the original at that point, repacks value of being faster to get is gone.

Saves needing to explain which files to keep/remove, saves needing people asking about original (which people are naturally going to do), it's just over all easier.

Of course a repack with 1 compression layer is better for actual usage, and personally I do use my own repack, but for storage/preservation/collection it's always best to have the original. but I won't bother going into why that is since you always ignore posts that do.

I couldn't find the original source for WRK. The copy in the archive torrent doesn't come from the original archive / ISO or whatever provided by Microsoft. It's a second-hand copy because that's all I could find.

There is one original source for WRK, betaarchive people managed to get it directly from MS when they briefly disabled login checks on the download, as WindowsResearchKernel-WRK.zip: https://www.betaarchive.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9694

From what I've seen on the net there's the two folder-copies of it going around, and then there's your 7z copy which has even more .pdf files than those folder-copies.
Since that .ZIP can't be found anywhere we can't know which copy is the original one from MS, and which might be some customized thing from a school or something, if you have that .ZIP anywhere it'd be nice to get hold of it.

Also I know winlogon2000 dynamically loads winsta.dll imports (LoadLibrary/GetProcAddress), but that changed in 2003 to link against winsta.lib which would add it to the EXE import list instead, as your pic also shows, could be other things that were changed like that too.
